Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visa (subclass 870)

This temporary visa is issued to the parents who intend to migrate to Australia for 3 to 5 years to join their children who are Australian permanent residents, citizens of Australia, or citizens (eligible) of New Zealand. Book an appointment with us for help.

Purpose Subclass 870 Visa Solves: – if you own this visa, you

  • Can temporarily re-unite with your children and grandchildren in Australia
  • Become eligible to re-apply for additional visas to stay to a maximum of 10 years in Australia.
  • Cannot do a job in Australia.
  • Can stay in Australia for up to 3 to 5 years.
  • Can travel to and from Australia as many times as you wish while the visa is valid.

Requirements for this Visa

You need to

  • Process your application online for this visa.
  • File visa application within 6 months of the approval of the sponsorship, or within 60 days if you have given permission to Apply in Australia.
  • Have a parent sponsor (an approved one) before applying for this visa.
  • Be offshore while applying for this visa, unless you own permission to apply in Australia, that too not in immigration clearance.
  • Be offshore or onshore Australia while we decide your application, that too is not in immigration clearance.
  • Fulfil all conditions of the visa and abide by the law of Australia.
  • Meet any previous visa obligations.
  • Meet character and health requirements.
  • Have enough money or access to it so as to support yourself during your stay in Australia.
  • Pay any debt or have arrangements to pay to the Australian government or to public health debt (if you own).

Stay Duration

  • As this is a temporary visa while having this visa you cannot apply for a permanent parent visa.
  • Your stay in Australia will be 3 to 5 years at a time.
  • Your stay can be for the period or date mentioned on the visa grant letter.
  • Things we need to consider while deciding your period of stay
  • Duration, you want to stay.
  • The cessation date of Sponsorship.

End of Visa Limit

  • On the date mentioned on the visa grant letter.
  • If the sponsor withdraws your sponsorship and in that case if you do not find a new parent sponsor.

Stay Extension

  • You can stay for 10 years.
  • A longer extension is not allowed on this visa. In that case, you must request another visa and apply for the same.
  • To become eligible for granting of another sponsored parent visa (Temporary), you must stay outside Australia for at least 90 days, unless you have permission to apply in Australia.

Visa Label

  • Visa will be digitally linked to your passport.

Family

Family members cannot be included in this visa application. The sponsor for subclass 870 visa:-

  • One needs to have an eligible Parent sponsor to apply for this visa.

Role of the Sponsor

Being a Sponsor, you must help your family members to help stay or settle in Australia. You need to provide them with financial and moral support along with sufficient space to live (for the first two years).

Apply for this Visa in Australia

  • You may apply for this visa in Australia if you have permission to apply in Australia, but not in immigration clearance.
  • This permission must be requested in the sponsorship application form of your sponsor and by your sponsor.
  • Owning this permission, you must lodge a visa application within 60 days of approval of sponsorship. Failing this, you will need to lodge your application for a visa outside Australia within 6 months of approval of sponsorship or apply for some other visa to remain in Australia.
  • In case you do not have permission to apply in Australia, you need to apply from offshore within 6 months of approval of sponsorship or apply for and be granted some varying kind of visa to remain in Australia.

Times for Processing

  • It is from 3 months to 5 months.
  • Application, however, might take a longer time to process if not filled correctly.
  • All documents are not provided.
  • It takes time for us to verification of your information.

Steps Involved

Step 1. Before Applying: – just check

  • If you are eligible.
  • If you have a Parent Sponsor(approved)
  • In case you do not have a Parent sponsor (approved) you can not apply or be granted this visa.

Step 2. Gather all Evidence: –

  • You need to provide all necessary documents for further proceedings.

Step 3. Visa Application: – Process your application online for this visa.

  • File visa application within 6 months of the approval of the sponsorship, or within 60 days if you have given permission to Apply in Australia.
  • You may apply for this visa in Australia if you have permission to apply in Australia, but not in immigration clearance.
  • In case you do not have permission to apply in Australia, you need to apply from offshore within 6 months of approval of sponsorship or apply for and be granted some varying kind of visa to remain in Australia.

Step  4. After Applying: – we will inform you after receiving your application and documents.

Step 5. The outcome of Visa: – You may be offshore or onshore (except in immigration clearance) at the time of decision on your application.

  • During granting of your visa, we will inform you about your visa grant number, the date of start of your visa and its conditions.
  • In case of refusal of our visa, we will let you know the reason for refusal and if you have a right to a review of the decision.
  • The application fee is non-refundable.

Balance-of-family test: –

There is no Balance-of-family test required for this visa, unlike Permanent parent visas.
